Trisha Greenhalgh

Nuffield Department of Primary Care Health Sciences, University of Oxford, United Kingdom

Professor Greenhalgh is a full time academic at the University of Oxford who leads a programme of research at the interface between social sciences and medicine, with particular focus on improving outcomes for disadvantaged groups, healthcare organisation and health policy.

Her research seeks to celebrate and retain the traditional and humanistic aspects of medicine while also embracing the unparalleled opportunities of contemporary science and technology to improve health outcomes and relieve suffering.

Her work addresses such diverse themes as the use of narrative to capture the patient’s illness experience; how ‘rationing’ decisions are made when demand for healthcare exceeds the resources available; the social, political and ethical implications of new technologies; and searching for better metaphors than “knowledge translation” to illuminate the complex links between research and clinical practice.
